I'm trying to find out what I have to do to acquire property that an out of state business has left here in Nevada. Everything I read online about 'abandoned property' relates to landlord/tenant laws. But that doesn't apply in this case.

A business that is based out of state had an office here in NV. 7 months ago they closed up shop. They left several tangible assets in a parking lot next to a mall. I don't know if they have any agreement with the mall owner. It's obvious the physical items are not being taken care of.

What has to happen for this property to be considered "abandoned" under NV law and how can I acquire it using Nevada abandoned property laws?

What type of property is it? Heavy equipment? Machinery? Cars? Would any of it require titling or possibly liability insurance? Some sort of legal title transfer or release of liability may be necessary.

Have you tried to contact the business? All they may want is to be rid of it. They may be happy to let you take it off their hands.

I was curious and found this link. It does discuss "unclaimed" property but seems to cover more ground than landlord/tenant. They may be a place to start:

I would think that the people who run or own the mall are who you have to contact. If they have the items on their property, then they have the responsibility for them.

Yes, and that's a good point at which to close this thread as it's really a legal question and we don't do legal opinions on this site.
