Hi everybody, does Nevada get lots of snowbirds in the winter time? The only time I have been to Vegas is this time of year ages ago.I heard Vegas gets in the 50's and maybe 60's in the winter time. Is Vegas and rural Nevada desert good for snowbirds? I wont be working at the time.I would only stay for a few months out of the year.It would just be me I dont have a budget yet but it wont be a really big budget or whatever..

Southern Nevada is snowbird country, Northern Nevada has flocks migrating out from the Tahoe area every winter.

Quite a few former Tahoe residents retire down into the Northern Nevada valleys when they can’t take the heavy Sierra snowpack any longer, but there is plenty of winter down here as well.

Southern Nevada is relatively inexpensive to relocate to for a few months for sure. There are a few North Idaho and Montana residents that relocate to the Reno area in the winter, but it’s more about winter sunshine or lack thereof for them.

Personally I would stay away from the Vegas area because of traffic and population density.
I would perfer to be in the Dayton to Fernley areas. Closest cities to those towns are Reno for Fernley, and Carson City for Dayton.
Also take note if on the market for a home I believe Nevada isn't too bad in property tax

I think of warmer climates for snowbirds during winter. I lived in Naples, FL for five years, it's snowbird heaven. I was in my pool on Christmas some years. IMO, it's too cold in Vegas to enjoy it unless you are escaping snow and below freezing temperatures. It can get cold enough to snow in Vegas, but it doesn't accumulate much or stay on the ground very long. Phoenix area is usually warmer than Vegas year round.

Vegas used to get a lot more snowbirds and second home owners spending the winter, doesn't seem like much anymore. It got too expensive and the economy grew too much, its mostly year-round residents now. There aren't any real good areas to truly snowbird other than around the Laughlin area and most who do the part-time thing end up on the Arizona side of the border. Lots of people snowbird there, perhaps that's a place to look as its 5-10 degrees warmer than Las Vegas which makes a big difference in the winter.
