Asking for a friend. She may be accepting a new job located around the Rocky Ripple area of Indianapolis.
She would need a safe 1 bedroom apartment, rent hopefully no more than $1300.
She is willing to consider a commute time of around 20 minutes
Indianapolis is a new area for her. She doesn’t care about being close to nightlife, shopping, etc…

Default Broad Ripple area

You mentioned your friend doesn’t care to be around the night life but the Broad Ripple area is exactly that. There’s bars, clubs, restaurants, music venues and hookah bars ect all around that area. Its also has a lot of college students living in the area and the traffic can get backed up on the weekends. There’s plenty of apartments, condos, homes and bungalow style homes to rent in the area. It’s a young hipster vibe over there and its about a 20min drive from downtown.

Rocky Ripple is near Broad Ripple, but is not Broad Ripple. Rocky Ripple is adjacent to Butler, and is a quiet neighborhood. Might find a rental house in Rocky Ripple, but it is mostly residential single family housing.

Within 20 minutes of Rocky Ripple? I haven't lived in an apartment in a very long time, so I am probably not the best person in terms of specific places. In general though, there are a lot of apartments closer to 86th/Michigan and over by St Vincent Hospital. The complexes closer to Michigan Rd have a better reputation, but again, that is all just in general. There are some apartments near 91st and College across from Nora Elementary School that are infamously awful. My sister used to live there, and it was just terrible.

She also used to live at Carriage House near 62nd/Keystone in Glendale. They were good enough, there are some other new apartments there by the Target in Glendale also. They look nice, but I've never lived in them. That general area is fine though, we shop at that Target regularly.

You might find some rental houses there near Butler also.

I have a fellow teacher who owns a nice duplex in the Butler-Tarkington area near St Joan of Arc and a little north of 38th/west of the fairgrounds. It is a safe area. I will see what his rent prices are, but it's a nice little place. Bigger than an apartment, but very close to Rocky Ripple. Not sure if he is already renting both out or not as he recently got married and moved out of the side he'd been living in.

Broad Ripple gets very crowded in the evening and weekend hours so if she's trying to avoid some of the nightlife an apartment in Broad Ripple is probably not ideal. Being close by could be nice if she wants to visit/get out. Further from Broad Ripple based on her desires may be better. As Toxic Toast mentioned Rocky Ripple is separate from Broad Ripple. You almost forget you are in Indy in that area, especially if on the "island" part of it that's between the canal and White River, though that area can be prone to flooding. Very quiet and parklike. Plus Butler has it's practice fields in that area. Canal Tow Path right there too!

20 min commute will honestly get her anywhere. 20 min can get you into Carmel during non-rush hour or Eagle Creek area. You could be in downtown Indy at that commute rate. She will have a ton of apartment options to choose from. Not wanting to commute too much though I'd look closer to Rocky Ripple if possible.

Some areas of Michigan Rd can get dicey, especially further south from 86th street, but even some right by 86th. Just look at the general area. My friend before she got married lived in these apartments at 86th and Township Line Road https://preservethelifestyle.com/ A couple of the 1 bedroom look to be under $1,300 though not by much. My friend felt safe there and never had any issues. I'm sure other complexes in that area are probably safe and affordable. That's about a 20 min commute.

Again some rentals may be best bet for that area unless she wants to be downtown Broad Ripple.

My fellow teacher already has a renter, unfortunately.

But like I and other posters mentioned in previous posts, finding places to live in that budget within 20 minutes shouldn't be hard. They will just have to decide what's most important to them on distance/time of commute, location in busy or more quiet area, price, etc.
