Plans for a large FIVE STORY tall biodome rainforest revealed for the Greensboro Science Center!

The video is about 40 minutes long but this is great news for the Science Center and Greensboro. The Greensboro Science is the only Zoo, Aquarium and Science Center in the state that is all in one facility and now the center will have a unique attraction not found anywhere in the state of North Carolina. In fact the biodome will be the first of its kind on the east coast seaboard. The experience will be breathtaking and you will feel like you are in an actual rain forest. The biodome will be 5 stories in height and a football field in length. It will even have an Aztec style pyramid inside which will be home of some of the primates. It will be complete with tropical ponds, island and many of the plants, animals and birds you see in an actual rain forest. You won't just see the animals and birds, they'll be around you.

The trees will be planted at about 20 feet but will eventually grow upwards to 5 stories to fill the dome.

Love it - I'm excited for this upgrade! Haven't been to the NC Zoo for a couple years, but their small biodome was one of my favorite parts (I think it was closed for repairs last time we were there, though?). It'll be nice to have one in GSO. The Science Center has come a long way over the past decade.

Is this a new plan or an updated plan to the plan they released last year? If a third planned expansion project at the GSO Science Center that's awesome news. In addition fo the expansion at the NC Zoo.

This is a more in-depth look at what was revealed last year. It's huge news and would be a major development for the Science Center. When we first moved here, I was a bit underwhelmed by the Science Center (I can't even imagine how bare bones it must have felt before the aquarium which I think was finished just before we got here). Revolution Ridge was a nice shot in the arm for it. The biodome in my opinion is an even bigger deal and I can't wait to see it.

On a disappointing note (as a member), but they no longer are part of ASTC (this was useful when we were in Richmond and got a free visit to the Virginia Science Museum last year) and are only 50% reciprocal for the AZA now.
