I came across some tips suggesting that this method can increase muscle growth. I was curious and decided to look it up on google, but I would also like to hear from the citydata community about their experience with it. Have you tried it before? Is it safe?

This is the first I ever heard of them. I had to look them up on Google to find out what they were.

They don't sound like a good idea to me. Restricting blood flow for any length of time more than a few seconds just doesn't sound wise. I would think that INCREASED blood flow would be encouraged rather than restricted blood flow.

My opinion is similar to Chas863's. I also had never heard of this before Googling it. I found this information on https://blog.nasm.org/blood-flow-res...n%20conditions.

Pros

Can increase muscle strength and hypertrophy at lower training intensities.
Prevents muscle loss in individuals who are injured or recovering from surgery.
Can improve rehab time after injury/surgery.
Gives the appearance of larger muscles due to local swelling (beneficial to bodybuilders and physique athletes).

Cons

Training may feel very intense and uncomfortable.
May cause bruising or numbness though this is often temporary.
There is a small risk of blot clots.
Optimal cuff pressures may be difficult to determine.
Cannot be used in those with diabetes, hypertension, vascular disease, cancer, sickle cell anemia, has any diseases or is taking any medication that increases clotting risk. Clinical judgment must be used before recommending BFR. *this is not an all inclusive list
Needs to be performed by an experienced practitioner.

I'd stick to classics like 5x5.
