Jim Farley is the keynote speaker at the 2024 SIEPR Economic Summit. He talks about Ford's business, including substantial discussion of the EV business and the (automotive) IT business.
I have to say that I really appreciate his commentary. He is still trying to present Ford in a positive light, but, compared to e.g. Mary Barra or Elon Musk, he is just so much more transparent and so much more willing to discuss interesting, complex challenges and changes Ford is going through. He assumes his audience is intelligent and wants to hear more than rose-tinged happy talk about how business is going or a predatory sales pitch - they'd like to actually learn something.
Farley looks like he double majored in economics and computer science at Georgetown University. He's a bright man, that is clear whenever you hear him speak - he's not just talking s---.
Farley's opening remarks contain numerous bombshells, but among them is the shockingly frank admission "that iconic legacy companies like Ford have really no sustainable advantage as we go into this transformation" (to electric powertrains and the digital transformation of vehicles to become a software platform). Keeping it real.
