It happened in the 1960s. Theres very little info online. I always assumed it was a bit of an urban legend...but theres at least enough information to confirmed it happened with little to no other detail.

Not sure if this is an accurate source or account of the murder:

The murder was in the Fall of 1966. It was in the band room of what was the combined Jr High and High School. The girl was a freshman and the murderer was a sophmore. He had made agressive advances toward her in the past, and he didn't take kindly to the rebuff. Her nude body with stab wounds was found on the stage of the band room one morning as students were arriving for classes. I was in the 8th grade and passed by the band room entrance. There were police and school administration all around.

I think the boy was mentally retarded if I remember correctly. My parents went to CHS at the time.

I was in some of the murdered girl's classes. I remember riding the bus to school that day and seeing her arm dangling from a stretcher being carried out. The Savage boy who murdered her was also a twin if I remember correctly. Someone told me that he ended up in prison in Stillwater, MN, was eventually released, and went on to murder another girl.

The girl herself was religious and likeable. I remember going through a crisis with God at the time.

It was a huge thing for most of us to deal with.

Is it a rummor that the actress Jessica Lang was a student at that high school at the time of the murder?

It's possible that she could have been there. She was born in 1949, which means she would have graduated high school in like 1967 - if she graduated from Cloquet that is. I don't know whether she did or not, but it says on Wiki that she briefly went to the University of Minnesota, so makes me think she did.

On IMDB (Internet Movie Database), there's no mention of her high school. However, she was born in Cloquet in 1949. Here's the link:

She did graduated from Cloquet High School. If she was born in 1949, she would have graduated in 1966 or 1967.

I was a 7th grader at the school at the time. I remember hearing the words "a girl was murdered in the bandroom" and I couldn't get my mind around what it meant. It was amazing how classes went on as scheduled, even as we were told no one had been caught. What were they thinking? Sometime midday they said one of the Savage twins had been taken away by police. Nothing more was ever said. It seems that around that time there was another unsolved murder. A girl name Susan Poferl was found murdered in Little Otter Creek. Does anyone have info on that one? I wonder how much trauma we absorbed, what with all the adults expecting us to carry on as if things were normal and no one addressing the issue. How times have changed!

Did they ever find who murdered Susan Poferl who was found in Otter River/creek in March of 1971-was it this same Savage guy?
