I'm not sure about that, but could be true. I applied for 5-10 jobs in Duluth about 10 years ago and had 3 offers for an interview, but I am from here. I know a lot of out-of-staters here now. Much easier to find a job in the NW part of the state where I live, but you'd have to drive an hour or so to get to the forest and lakes. I go stream trout fishing and the nearest stream to me with a good easement is 80 miles.

  • I am not looking for anything hip, just a nice family-friendly town
  • I vote republican and have libertarian values
  • I despise hot and humid summers and don't mind the cold nearly as much
  • I don't wanna be somewhere that's attracting a lot of out-of-staters
Your going to get A LOT of people from Minneapolis / st Paul on the weekends .. It is THE tourist town for us city slickers

Duluth people seem to be much more closed minded and small townish. I am different than most people there and didn't feel comfortable, but I was the outsider and if that is how people chose to live, they should be happy. I am just saying this stuff so people considering a move can see for themselves but will understand that it is different there from most places of population.

Superior has a University too.

This thread has been informative about Duluth.

As someone who lived in Maine for the past 12 years, I am confused at to why folks are suggesting it as some type of Republican/Libertarian enclave. We have a independent senator who votes with the Dems always, and a Republican senator who is only there because sh'e been there forever and Mainers don't like change. Once she retires it will be a Dem. Our two house seats are Democrats. Our current gov is a Democrat.

I can say it is heavily wealthy out of staters and poor locals who hate the out of staters, at least where I live in the western mountains area. That being said Mainers aren't bad people, but the loss of paper mills and fisheries collapse has been very, vary hard for the state.

Duluth sounds nice.
