About the closest you can get to PI and still be in Charleston is Bolton's Landing right off 17. That would put you ~66 miles from PI and your wife would most likely be traveling 17 for her commute. 17 is a bear at rush hrs and some mornings it might take her an hour. Carolina Bay is only a couple miles closer in to downtown but might save her 10-15 minutes vs Bolton's Landing due to the fact that you can't take a left out of Bolton's directly onto 17.
Are you both in person, full time. I would think Ravenel or Hollywood would be the midpoint time wise. But in non-rush that is a breeze into downtown and still a haul to get to Parris Island.
Making it work might depend on have a 3d in person/2d remote set up or maybe 4 10s. 20-30 years ago before Charleston spread so far this would have been more feasible as population/traffic absolutely thinned out once you passed 526. So people could drive an extra 10-15 miles out with less than a 20 minute addition to their commute.
Thanks for the responses. We are leaning towards West Ashley. It is about 65 miles to my work site at Parris Island and 9 mile drive for my wife. I drive 50 miles now so yes it is further, but nothing I am used too. It looks like my ride to PI is a fairly easy ride. I am hoping I can find someone to car pool with when I start the new job.
The reason I am working at PI is that I currently work for the government and have only 6 years to go until retirement. The new position is a promotion. My wife currently works for the VA now here in PA and got a promotion to move to the VA in Charleston. The distance apart is not ideal, but we are basically doing the same here in PA

I am hoping for telework days and/or 4 10 hours days which I do now.
I have been checking Google maps a lot at the rush hour times. The drive to PI seems to be clear on google maps once I would get away from Charleston.
I'd still drive it in person to see how it feels. Its a hike. The furthest I've known someone to commute daily is Georgetown to Charleston from the North and Walterboro outskirts to Charleston from the South/West.
Invest in a high quality radar detector. You can drive pretty fast once you clear the Hardees at 17/165. You'll see some city and county LEO out there, but most people seem to speed heading that way.

I have a Uniden R8. ($699) Quite pricey, but with the cost of tickets these days, worth it to me.
