Yes, everyone still in California should move out. Go to where burgers are still cheap.

Definitely.

In their dreams! OK, so someone can get a hamburger for $24, $30 whatever. What's that old line about a sucker being born every minute?

Or, I can go to ACME Oyster House in New Orleans and have a bowl of the best seafood gumbo in the city for $7.49 w/ a beer for an extra $6, then stroll over to the Cafe Du Monde for a Cafe au Lait and an order of freshly made Beignets for $6.85, and leave a nice tip for both places for less than I paid for a piece of a dead cow on a bun at Neiman Marcus. Hmmmm, decisions, decisions.
And this is relevant how??

I can get a cheap sub in Detroit.

I still dream about eating there!

I swear if you have to charge $30 for an average hamburger, you're running your business wrong.

Unless the overhead (rent, utilities, taxes) is crazy, then you either don't have enough business (sales) or you run a very inefficient operation.

Maybe it's time to close the brick and mortar and run a food truck.

Whatever happens, you won’t be able to call it a "nothingburger".

The financial advice website LendingTree recently asked more than 2,000 adults how they feel about--and how often they eat--fast food.

Nearly 8 in 10 said they now view fast food as a “luxury,” and 62% said they are eating it less often because prices have gone up, the survey found.

Yeah, I've heard about California's new law on banning service fees. It seems like a big change, and I wonder how it'll affect things in the long run. Do you think this will end up making dining out more or less affordable?

That would certainly help the food truck manufacturing industry, which is apparently struggling.

Yes, it is the rent and utilities, taxes, plus insurance, compliance to code and other costs all being much higher. The minimum wage laws are only the straw that broke the camel's back.

I have yet to see a $30 burger COMBO so far. None of the food prices have changed much at all.

I used to live in California and saw prices steadily go up over the years. One time, I took my family out to a local burger joint we loved, and we were shocked at how much the prices had jumped since our last visit. We ended up paying almost double what we were used to, which really made us rethink how often we could eat out.

I get that the new laws are trying to protect workers, but it definitely feels like the costs get pushed onto the customers.
