Funny way around California's new $20 minimum wage. Went to Fat Burger today for lunch. It's now full service.

Please wait you be seated, can I take your order please, can I get you anything else...

Well that was smart. Change from a fast food restaurant to a sit-down restaurant allowing "take out".

Pure genius.

You can't cheat the law of unintended consequences. Politicians never take that into account.

Wow - that didn't take long; I thought for certain fast food places would just install an Easy-Bake oven and add fresh made Muffins/Bread to their menu (at an outrageously high price, to discourage folks from actually ordering them).

("Restaurants that operate a bakery that "produces" and sells "bread" as a stand-alone menu item as of September 15, 2023, and continue to do so are exempt from the new law.")

Clever! This must have lawmakers in Sacramento fuming. Let the scrambling begin, looking for a way to squash that loophole.

Don't you have to tip servers then? Tips add 15-20% to prices.

No you don't have to. Nor do you have to go out to eat if you can't afford to go out to eat and tip the servers too. Back in the day I worked in restaurants. You don't want to frequent a place over and over where you never leave a tip for the wait staff. They will get the last laugh on you. I heard all the stories.
