I have noticed this in the Bay Area but it's mainly people in tech so far as I can tell, also I know a number f people with jobs based here but they commute back of forth between here and homes they purchased in TX---we'll see how this all pans out. In any event, yet another trend to keep track of...

Interesting as we have new neighbors who just moved here (San Diego County) from Austin. Of course, we welcomed them to California when they introduced themselves. We have no problems with people moving here from other places. Once upon a time, I did too (husband's great great grandparents moved to California from Iowa in 1895).

California seeing a sizable influx of new residents relocating from Texas.
You see, that is the cool things about us Californians, and why we are so great is that we dont care about any influx of residents coming in from other states or countries here. We are cool. We are great. We are accepting. We are awesome. We are just so much better than like those folks in places like Texas who say "We hate the Californians moving here trying to California Texas" and other types of idiotic b.s. like that.

They are all like "Boo hoo hoo, stop moving to our Texas (or insert any other state here) from CA and trying to California it up here. Waaaah waaaah boo hoo......." crying. LOL.

It's most likely just Californians who moved to Texas and didn't like it so they moved back to California. Many who leave California end up regretting it and they move back

That in itself says a lot.

They are lucky if they are able to move back. Many people can't.

Exactly why you don't sell your home if you relocate until experiencing the new area first (no sense in losing out on your Prop 13 advantage).

Much of that is a bunch of internet nonsense. Most people are too polite to make a comment like that in person. Not to mention, there are an awful lot of transplants all over. My local neighborhood app had one poster that was run off the site after making a derogatory statement like the one above. Most people on the app (locals and transplants) don't care for those type of comments. Despite the hyperbole, the percentage of Californians moving to any state in the country is a relatively low percentage of the overall population.

Happened to someone I know. They decided to leave San Diego and CA but after a year or so out of state they decided they did not like it and wanted to come back. Unfortunately they had sold their house and in the one year prices had gone up to a point where they could not even afford to buy a similar home to the one they had sold. So they did not move back.

Yep, not the smartest move. It's always best to have choices. I've mentioned before that there's a good chance we might come back. The property tax we pay in Texas will very likely be double to triple that of our home in the Bay Area (it's currently $13.4k vs $6.2k). With income being reduced in retirement, there's a good chance it might be just as financially feasible to move back.

Exactly. My late sister’s spouse finally died & the family home was sold. It was a 3/2 tract home on 1/4 acre in a safe, clean suburban neighborhood <15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The property tax thanks to Prop 13 hovered around $500-$700 A YEAR, no mortgage since early 80’s. Too bad my sister couldn’t have enjoyed it longer.
