I complain about this state and its shortcomings all the time. I am actually very happy with my life.

Then my words don't apply to you. However there are some that resemble my remarks. I also complain occasionally that isn't what I'm talking about.

Yes, absolutely. That could even be said for Californians about California. I never chime in about life in southern California since I haven't visited since the mid 80's. I have no desire to go so I don't know what it's like. So, to say that California is the same everywhere is simply not true.

The only reason Democrats win so many elections in California is because the Republicans shifted too far to the right. Bashing immigrants, supporting unpopular wars, cutting education, and anything to do with conservative Christian politics are toxic with moderate, laid-back independent Californians. Only parts of LA and SF are truly liberal.

Moderate, centrist Republicans could easily win back the Governor's office, the legislature, and statewide offices. But they can't because the Tea Party and the hardliners vote against them in the primaries. For the most part Democrats don't win elections, the Republicans lose them.

I agree with you, California is moderately conservative but hasn't quite reached the moon battery that states like Arizona and Indiana have because San Francisco has been keeping them in check.

Only if you live a needlessly over complicated life.

So ca is moderate conservative besides a whole bunch of mischaracterized conservative policies?

Most republicans in this state are socially centrists or even liberal. It doesn't make a difference. The only thing most voters need to see is the "D" next to the name. A perfect example is how Leland Yee 10% in the democrat primary last year after being arrested for gun running and other corruption charges. He placed 3rd out of 8 people running, FYI.

Maybe one day they will remove party affiliation from the ballot and a republican that is not a movie star or even an independent could be elected to a state wide office.

If having a roof over your head is needlessly complicated, than yeah. Unfortunately most rental places now expect you to have 2 months' worth of rent in your pocket before they even consider allowing you to rent, so yes thousands of dollars are absolutely necessary to buffer yourself while looking for a place, and in order to pay the deposit.

Let me tell my parents that I am leaving the area, I'll do that right after I say goodby to my 80 year old grandfather that is in and out of the hospital on what seems like a bi monthly basis, my wife will certainly be happy to leave her entire family behind or it might be me leaving her behind.

It really is, at least for anyone not living on a boat.
