Thought I'd start a thread discussing the growing and massive economic impact UAB is having on Birmingham, Jefferson County, and the State of Alabama.

Here are the new economic impact stats

I hadn't realized that UAB had grown to covering 110 blocks in downtown Birmingham. Ten years ago, it only covered about 80, if I remember correctly.

Here are two videos of President Ray Watts being interviewed about his 10 year tenure as president, and all the growth that has happened.

That's a lot of jobs, and the first time I've seen it broken down that way where you can see the impact of the hospital vs. the school.

The west facility will be a great driver for more growth around exit 1.

This is peripherally related to UAB, but I think ALDOT needs to consider a better way to have UAB traffic exit off the RME in the morning. I was driving back from an early meeting downtown and it was kind of nuts.

All one lane exits off interstates/RME in the city needs to be upgraded to two lanes. Too much traffic today to have single lanes exits. Coming from Homewood exiting off on University, they upgraded to two lanes, but didn't on the other side.

The whole thing is just too slow and narrow for all the cars and the speed people try to make. There's not enough room at the bottom of the exits and you have to make hard cuts to use them. I wish they had room/money to redo practically all the ramps.
