Birmingham's street grid is gigantic, yes. As far as street/building density? Probably Top 5 in the South.

So expressing my view that Birmingham and Greenville's downtown don't seem similar is trying to sell Greenville.

I'm also not sure how my comment is 'dependably'. I have rarely posted on Birmingham forum, and I posted my comparison of Huntsville and Birmingham yesterday without mentioning Greenville. I don't understand why you think that I want you or anybody else to like Greenville.

Is there something that I said regarding Birmingham in comparison to Greenville that isn't true? It is a chamber of commerce sales pitch to point out Birmingham has more tall buildings downtown, a large university downtown, etc and Greenville doesn't?
It's weird. As if the word "Greenville" went, vibrating a strand on the interwebs and you came running. I mean, I don't lurk around on the South Carolina forums.

But, since you insist, I spend a lot of time in Greenville. In-laws are there. My brother-in-law is very involved with the local children's hospital Lots to recommend it. Cool downtown, nice and compact around a river. But if you're saying that Birmingham and Greenville are comparable in terms of amenities, dining, et al, then, well, no.

I posted on this topic last night. No mention of Greenville at that time. Everything you have said is not accurate. You appear to be eager to argue about something. I think the reason is I compared Hville favorably to Birmingham and you are Mr. Birmingham Chamber of Commerce. On this thread, you made a comment about Birmingham's GDP being greater than several cities's GDPs combined which sounds like a Chamber of Commerce kind of observation.

It doesn't make any sense for you to accuse me of being Mr. Greenvilel CHamber of Commerce for pointing out B'ham has a larger more urban downtown than Greenville, and the two downtowns are not similar. I never said that Greenville's downtown is better which appears to be your inference. I made an objective comparison of the two downtowns.

I don't think that I have ever seen your screenname on here before, and I rarely post on B'ham forum, yet you seem real familiar with me. How is that if I mostly post on the Greenville forum and you don't lurk on the Greenville forum.

I specifically said Greenville and B'ham's downtown are not similar in my previous post, but in your last sentence you say 'if you're saying that Birmingham and Greenville are comparable in.....' I never mentioned restaurants and 'amenties'. I simply pointed out Birmingham's downtown is much large, has a large university, etc. All of that can be seen as a good thing and it doesn't make sense to infer that I meant it as a negative.

I never insisted that you talk about Greenville.

Dude, I don't bother with Greenville forum. You just made my point by traipsing over here in the first place.

Ok, nothing you have said is accurate.

I posted on this thread yesterday prior to the other person introducing Greenville. Yet you say that I beelined it over because somebody posted on Greenville. I often look at threads that I post on to see if anybody responded.

I did not introduce Greenville and I didn't tout Greenville, only pointed out that I don't think the downtowns are similar. I don't understand why that is controversial.

Most of my posts are on the Greenville forum so doesn't make any sense to say that I 'dependably' post in other city forums to tout Greenville, which I didn't even do on this thread. Then you claimed that I 'insisted' that you talk about Greenville and I never did. I was responding to another person.

This is so weird. I won't post on the B'ham forum again. I had thought this topic was in the general Alabama forum last night. I think the only reason I saw the topic last night is it was the most recent on the Alabama forums and I saw it on the main forum page.

People who think there is any rivalry here are crazy. No more rivalry than any other two random cities in the same region. No one I know ever talk about comparisons unless they were actually contemplating a move from one to the other.

There really aren't THAT many cities that have a real "rivalry" right now. I'd argue Dallas and Houston kinda do. Chicago and LA did for a while but probably not so much now. LA and NYC do I guess.

Little Rock and Fayetteville (or really, all of NW Arkansas) do. And I'm not talking about some real hatred or anything. Just a small competition under the surface. I've always heard about Memphis and Nashville too, though I don't have much experience with that one.

If you guys think there's a lot of city rivalry just about anywhere you spend too much on these forums. There may be some in context of sports teams, but I'm not sure there's much else. I can't think of anywhere I've lived where people IRL had any sense of real rivalry.

Most of the people I've met from Huntsville love Birmingham.
