So, my daughter is recovering from whooping cough (pertussis). She was vaccinated but that doesn't guarantee you won't get it. No one knows where she got it but so far the rest of us have no symptoms. We are on profilaxis anti-biotics. It has been horrible for her, for 3 weeks she coughs so much it hurts and is just now starting to feel better, though she still has a cough, it is not bad.
She is not a social butterfly so there we are stymied about where she got it.
I hope you all have gotten the vaccination, because I think without that my daughter would be in the hospital. It gives your body a fighting chance if you do get the bateria.
I was under the misconception that we don't need any vaccination for such an old disease like pertussis, or ditheria (which they used to put with the tetanus vaccine, but now it is another vaccine - it used to be DPT, now it is TAP).
My daughter told me there has been a notice sent to all the public schools about Whooping Cough, so it is not just a random thing. Her neighbor is a teacher and also got it.
