The fall Bristol Bay king crab harvest was canceled and snow crab harvest slashed by 90%. Those decent Costco crab prices may be increasing soon.

Sad news. I believe the Costco King crab comes from Russia.

Is this also the King harvest that takes place in the Bering Sea? I can't read your link without signing up.

Strange. All the king crab products I see in Costco come from Alaska. Clearly stated on the packaging.

Costco's been selling red king crab from Russia for years (at some point before 1970, the Soviet Union had some sort of transplant program going on in the Barents Sea). Doesn't mean that's all they sell, though.

That's for red king crab out of Bristol Bay. I believe there are some golden king crab fisheries out the Aleutians that will still be open.

However, they also just slashed the snow crab quota in the Bering Sea by 90%.

My wife and I love crab and the next few years are going to suck. We usually buy the 10lb box of king crab from Costco in Anchorage, which ironically is the Russian crab, and it used to be around $20/lb. I looked a couple of weeks ago and it was up to $34/lb. Too rich for our blood. I can only guess what it is going to cost next year if you can even get it at all.

Last crab I bought were dungeness.

I'm aware. But Bristol Bay crab fishery is what the article in the Seattle Times was talking about. BB is part of the Bering Sea.

People bring me crab all the time. I'm allergic so I give it away.

Bunch of yellow crab in the Gulf this year, so I've heard.

Walked down to Pike Place Market this morning in Seattle. Alaska King Crab was $79/lb. Just down to the next place there was no price but the sign said "Bering Sea King Crab" with no price, probably from Russia. Read that 75% of king crab in the US is from Russia.

Does Ketch have a Costco now? I've been thinking about getting a house there.
