Read this evening Birmingham-Southern College closing its doors May 31
https://whnt.com/news/alabama-news/b...-doors-may-31/

Sad to hear this news. Really pucks for the current students. Anything known if there are active lawsuits being filed against the Board of Trustees? Any news on potential buyers of the property? Any chance UAB moves into the space?

Auburn University already has a presence in the city with its urban studio. Maybe there are some possibilities for them. The one thing that I am certain of is that Birmingham has the best leadership in place in a long time. Mayor Woodfin is not going to allow that place to stay closed for long. Had this closure happened under any other administration, I'd be worried. I'd love to see Auburn do something there.

The main thing I hope stays around from BSC is the Southern Environmental Center and the related EcoScape projects. A merger of that with the Auburn urban studio would actually be pretty sweet. It wouldn't necessarily be a new college, but, if it were, that's be a pretty enticing basis to bring people to the new school all things considered.

UAB has said they aren't interested.

Scuttlebutt is the loan package was tanked by interested parities calling in expressing dibs on the property with much bigger plans to utilize it.

Hope it doesn't stay vacant for too long, but magic eight ball says, "Don't fret."

Maybe they could move the baseball and softball teams down there and at least they'll have lights.
