Health Care - Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Health Care - Health Care And Wellness

The quality of life in the Baton Rouge area is enhanced by excellent health care. The region is recognized as a primary care center in the Gulf South.

Baton Rouge area health centers have rapidly expanded in response to a permanent increase in population following Hurricane Katrina. In the midst of disaster, Baton Rouge hospitals proved adept in emergency response and reliability. The number of surgical and specialty hospitals has grown, and the range of options and quality of care have continued to increase. The care people receive is enhanced by the presence of three major cancer centers and an affiliate clinic of Memphis’s St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The St. Jude cancer clinic, located within Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, is one of only four St. Jude affiliate programs in the country. Baton Rouge also is home to Pennington Biomedical Research Center, world famous for its research. The growth in research and medical technology in Baton Rouge has not only created continued better care for residents but opportunities for advanced study in related fields.

This chapter highlights full-service acute-care hospitals, as well as a number of specialized hospitals and multipractice clinics. Many of the health care practitioners listed in this chapter accept major health insurance, but you should always confirm the method of payment prior to your visit. Due to space limitations it’s necessary to be brief. Note that Insider’s Guides does not endorse any of the insurers or health care practitioners listed here or the care they may or may not provide.
