1) DECLARE all agricultural / produce / dairy / meat items. But, the discretion of inspection officer may have you leaving stuff behind (such as bananas!, citrus, garlic... (Allium), Tomatoes, potatoes (limited)) Pet food (limited)
Travelers entering the United States must declare all agricultural products on their U.S. Customs forms. U.S. agricultural inspectors will examine your items to be sure they meet entry requirements and do not harbor harmful foreign pests or diseases. U.S. inspectors have the authority to make a final determination about whether your products can enter the country. We recommend that you keep receipts and original packaging of agricultural products as proof of their country of origin.

As long as you declare all the agricultural products you are bringing with you, you will not face any penalties—even if an inspector determines that they cannot enter the country.
It's much harder to get back into the USA, than it is to get into Canada (FME)
A bit of irony, is that you can not bring an orange from California, bought in Canada, back into the US.

Over the Canada Day/July 4th weekend, border backups were hours/miles long, in Bellingham the Costco gas line was backed out onto Bakerview, and trying to get anything but skim milk or $7/half gallon organic was impossible, everyone was sold out.
I have read about this and never seen it in person. I have seen the lines coming down to USA on weekends and Holidays and it blows my mind unless you have Nexus WHY? I can see saving a few hundred on a flight from USA but to save on milk and gas? I don't think its worth sitting in a car for hours for.

The opposite is also true, I’ve gone down to enjoy Seattle and the Oregon coast many times over the years. The border is but a mild inconvenience as we have Nexus. We live within a shared geographical gem that is the Pacific Northwest.

It's not worth it financially as well.

Just checked the price difference in milk. After conversion of money, a Canadian would pay 90 cent CDN less for a US gallon, which is slightly less in size that a 4 litre jug at home. A US gallon being 3.78 litres. Hardly worth it.

Gas might be worth it, depending if you live right on the border. I'd have to drive over an hour, plus border crossing time. Definitely not worth it for me.

The lines at the boarder were longer for us going from BC -> WA. I saw lots of BC license plates going in that direction. With easy access now post pandemic, why not enjoy both sides of the border? I have friends who moved from BC to Bellingham after living in Portland for ~ a decade. They have dual citizenships and seem to enjoy the entire PNW.

One of them recently asked me if Cascadia was still talked about much. I had never heard of it before. Apparently, there is a movement among some to make BC, WA and OR its own new country. Cascadia movement

While that sounded a bit far fetched, I could see the shared commonalities between them.

Thinking about going to VAC, Sept 8-10. Fully Charge LIVE Convention. Its only 4 hours by train, 3.5 hours by bus, 3 hours by car from Seattle.

Going to VAC is easy.
