Yes, I have a profile there already. However, I can't afford the "connects" needed to bid for jobs.
I'm sorry; I joined before they started charging for those. You get 10 free every month, on your billing date. Make sure you use those. If a client invites you to interview you usually don't have to use connects to apply.
I hope this info helps you and you find work soon!
I've been unemployed for 4 months now (from Nov. 20th 2023). Even though I'm actively searching and submitting 5 new applications daily and getting interviews, I still have not been able to get a job offer. My rent/utilities/other fixed expenses is $1700/month and I'm down to my last $5000. Any ideas what I should do? I'm only able to pay my rent for another month. Obviously the routine of filling out as many jobs as possible has not given me any inbound earnings..
I believe you said you get $500 a week unemployment. Your fixed expenses are $1700 a month. So your unemployment covers that. How is it you can only pay rent for another month?
Two ways you can do it. Increase your passive income. Get a roommate or two. If its an apartment whatever you can legally do. If you are in a city and you have a car. Sell it. You hopefully will get some money back depending on if you have a loan. And you don't need to pay car insurance. Start taking public transportation.
Does the above seem extreme? If you don't take serious action you could be homeless soon. You have to be proactive now you could lose what little you have now.
Other than that another option is do gig driving. Door Dash, Grub Hub. Amazon, Walmart, etc. Even here in rural Oklahoma I personally know people making $1000 to $1500 a week doing the above. I have a good friend who works five days a week doing the above. About 40 hours and never makes less than $1000. You don't need to be an uber driver driving people in your car.
Market yourself especially to vet-owned businesses.
Small business can use someone like yourself for those unexpected times. Get out there and walk door to door.
I'm a small business (mortgage broker) as is my husband (CPA). When we have a computer issue or concerned about security, we need someone to call. (We have someone now who was referred to us).
By doing this, you will make the contacts you need.
someone mentioned custodial work.
this search on USA Jobs (federal employment) for "Housekeeping Aid" shows 92 jobs, pay is around $16 per hour. Federal jobs have good benefits. If you are a Veteran, you receive preferential hiring. Once you are in a federal job it is then easier to move out of custodial work, into something that may utilize your other professional expereince.
for Program Support Assistant (general admin work), pay around $40,000 per year, lists 598 jobs.
You can add filters for the search for your own city, state, area
and forIT Specialist, since it looks like you've done some of that, pay $50,000 to $80,000, search shows 1,151 jobs
those are a few samples. USA Jobs is a great resource.

Thanks. I really never thought of other gig driving brands. Will check those out.
Just my own personal opinion for what its worth. You have over 2 decades of work experience in a field that pays pretty well. 4 months of being unemployed with $2,000 a month in unemployment benefits should not leave you close to homelessness. In 20 years you should have had a good nest egg socked away. A home almost paid off. Not to criticize you but you need to look at what got you to this point. Either you are spending too much or not making enough or both. Imagine if you bought a home 20 years back what difference your situation would be now.
Maybe you get rid of the rental you live in. Find a friend or relative who will let you sleep on the couch for a year. Put your stuff in storage. Find some sort of ok paying 9-5. Even if its unrelated to your field. The most basic retail or whatever jobs pay $15-$20 an hour even here in rural Oklahoma. So I am sure wherever you are that is the case too. Don't be that picky. Work another 20-30 hours a week doing a gig delivery job. Burn the candle at both ends and at the end of the year you might have $20 or $30k saved up. And during the year if you finally find that job in your field all the better but you don't have to find that to survive. 60 hours a week if you work 7 days is 8.5 hours a day. Anyone can do that if they really want to. No time for fun or a great social life. But your priority should be getting out of the hole you are in.
Just remember, if you exceed certain wage limits while on unemployment, that can result in an offset of benefits. So you may end up working and netting less than what you would have received on unemployment alone.
You're also in a state where your field is rapidly expanding, however, so are the number of qualified employees seeking work in that area. The salary levels have stagnated in the last two years with many are having to take a slightly lower salary. You may want to do a prevailing wage analysis for your position and specific location to see what the current salary range is.
Do not get sucked into the 'gig driver" BS. What a person claims they make is usually their gross, After expenses, many are working below minimum wages. You may even make more hawking cell phone cases at the mall compared to what many Uber or DoorDash drivers actually make.
USAJobs is great for finding government employment but it's not an apply today, get interviewed on Tuesday and start the week after. Expect weeks to months of waiting before even hearing anything.
Where are the interview today-an start the week after jobs though? Which website online can I find them at?
