Hello, I'm about to laid off soon, and the company has offered us a retention bonus for staying until than but how does that work out with unemployment benefits? The estimated pay date, after I've been laid off so do I wait until the next day or so to apply for UI?

I hope the company is not trying to prevent us from getting UI, they haven't made any statements that they wouldn't dispute any claims, like my old company did.

Any help would be great, thank you.

Per Section 926, a retention bonus is considered wages. You would apply for unemployment the day after your official layoff date. If the retention bonus is paid before the layoff, it will be included in your finial wages to unemployment and/or reported by you. If it's is not paid by the day of layoff, you do not include or report it as you really have no idea if they will pay it. Should you be asked if any severance or bonuses is due, you can mention it but with a big (?) question mark listed by it.

Hello, for reporting severance pay, retention bonus and even vacation, how would I go about doing that?

On the website for EDD, it says expect receive than it says "From Date" and "To Date"

I haven't been paid of my retention bonus just yet nor my severance just yet.
