OK, so your sister's area has wind, how bad of a wind each day?

Southern Utah does have wind once and while, about 6-8 mph on the average.

With the relatively high day temps, actually, a nice breeze to cool you off, maybe?

Yes, I too, in Carson City, Nevada, quickly hated the wind. My bf jokes that if they gave the winds an actual name, expect them to be strong!* I may check out St. George in about two weeks myself

They do have a name. It's called the Washoe Zephyr.

I don't live in St. George but I have a friend who does. He's never mentioned anything about it being particularly windy.

Las Vegas is windy and St. George will be windy, too.

A lot of this has to do with geography and topography.

Saint George sits at the convergence of the Mojave Desert, the Colorado Plateau and the Great Basin.

Because of this, it is very susceptible to changes in pressure gradients with high and low pressure systems.

In late fall and winter, Pacific Coast low pressure systems bring wind and precipitation. In spring and fall both, high Pressure systems bring the dry air that blows out of the Great Basin towards Southern California. When those winds arrive in So Cal, we call them "Santa Anas" or devil winds.

Summer is probably the least windy because you'll be in Monsoon Season from late June through October.

Kingman AZ, Las Vegas NV, and St George UT all share very similar climates and, if you look on a map, they somewhat lineup to each other from north to south.

I live in Hurricane, which is about 15 miles north of St. George, and there is a good reason it's called Hurricane. It's frequently windy, check any weather website on any given day and you'll generally see winds anywhere from 5 to 25 mph.

St. George is probably a little less windy, and a little warmer, due to it being at a lower elevation and not trapped in a valley the way we are.

St. George on the west side is windy around 3 PM nearly every day. Sometimes it quits by 4 PM, but other times not until maybe an hour before sunset. Mornings are good for running errands without wind unless there's a weather front. I noticed how bad it was in Hurricane too, when I was home-searching. If you live near a canyon on the west a whole lot of red dirt comes in the house from the strong p.m. winds.
