It's so stupid that it makes zero sense at all anywhere that imposes such puritan laws.
For a Sunday football game, I would had alcohol well stocked the night before the games start. Does that stop drinking on Sundays? It will hurt local businesses for those looking to pickup a last minute booze they have to wait or call their friends.
It's not as bad as NJ, which requires all retail stores to shutdown on Sunday except for food.
I remember in SC in the 80s and 90s many stores couldnt open up before 1:30pm on Sunday. Some local business owners said that they and their employees should be able to go to church before work. That was told to me by a local politco who was connected to the business community. National Retailers began to balk/challenge/protest in various communities may have slowly pushed for these jurisdictions to change. Now you have the option to open or not (Chick-fil-A) the choice is yours not the governments.
I don't really have an opinion here. While I don't NOT drink.. I do it infrequently... And I've never had a situation where I wanted to buy a bottle of booze, but couldn't because it was Sunday. I've more had a problem when I'd want something and it was 6:30pm and wouldn't be able to get to the store before 7pm
I was far more vocal about making sure that restaurants could sell alcohol on Sundays.. And getting rid of the damned mini bottle law..
But.. This one.. I can't really bring myself to say anything more than.. Meh.
Apparently Food Lion opened a liquor store in Little River SC back last May. According to this article they operate 4 now in SC. Not sure where the other 3 are.

Yes I think that's the bigger issue is closing at 7. I work late sometimes so can't make a 7pm closing time. Possibly 9 at earliest. Alot of states have moved to 11pm and beyond. No crime increase for the ones that say crime will increase

The small stores are fighting any change in closing saying it would put them at a disadvantage to larger players. As it stands now 9 to 7, six days a week is 60 hours a week with many owners working those 60 hours by themselves.
