Being a new member of the retirement forum who joined expressly to share the sad news of Curmudgeon's passing, I want to express my sincere gratitude for the wonderful response of sympathy and respect for Curmudgeon.

It has been heartwarming to hear of fond memories of Curmudgeon as well as other beloved contributors who have died too soon. I followed Escort Rider as well, and was saddened at his passing too.

Curmy and Escort Rider were friends through this forum I understand--and what a gift for both of them. They contributed so much insight and perspective to all of us and in their real life much generosity and service to others.

I haven't been around long enough to know some of the other appreciated forum members--perhaps others might like to remember or mention those other members they fondly remember that have passed on.

Robyn55 passed on over a year ago. Her posts were always full of information and sound advice.

It's a good thing all of the people who have passed away so far have been really good - exceptional even - people. What about all of the average and miserable people who will pass away? I wonder what will be said about them

Just musing.

Oh, wow! I haven't seen the post announcing Curmy's passing. He was quite the personality on the California forum! RIP, Curmy!

Also the very few who speak up about certain posters have opinions which should not be extrapolated to the opinion of the majority or many others - but indeed, the few who speak up about posters have opinions which are automatically extrapolated to the majority and to many others, when they should be seen as speaking for themselves and not the majority.

It's similar to on City Data, someone will mention something and people automatically assume that it represents a wide swath or grouping of people when in reality it represents the opinion or experience of very few.

I miss RiverBird (who started out on CD as NewEnglandGirl). Her posts were always insightful and I looked forward to seeing her on here. I hadn't yet joined (out of shyness or some other rubbish reason) but she always felt like a good friend, as did the others named above.

There was another poster out of Colorado who wrote beautifully about stretching a food dollar into gourmet meals -- on the "shoestring" thread started by RiverBird. I wish I remembered his/her name and will try to. RIP all.
