Just did the calculations.

One in every 227 people in the USA in 2023 is a Realtor.

In my current state of NC the percentage is 14% higher, (55,000 realtors).

It’s gonna be interesting to see how this changes next year.

These are based on searching for number of realtors in x in 2023 and population of x in 2023. It no doubt includes full time down to inactive individuals but it’s become a popular field.

But....
There are a great many licensees who are members of NAR, NCREALTORS, etc, with no intention of working in brokerage or sales.
That number is unknown, but certainly exists among those 55,000.

All three of those professions rank high on my list of the most soulless, greedy money-grubbing whores that walk amongst us (whatever the gender).

There's a huge saturation of agents in my area, suddenly everyone decided to get their real estate license to cash in on the housing grift, but the inventory keeps decreasing, like 600 agents for 300 listings in a recent month. I live in a small town with a few papers/magazines that are funded by real estate ads, so I know who the realtors are because they paste their cheesy mugs across every single ad or sign. Lately I'm seeing more of them spreading into other lines of work, based on local business networking gossip. I guess the real estate game isn't working out for them.

Within their circuit it probably feels like a bloodbath of competition. I would be okay with reading about some 'accidental' deaths of realtors. "Occupational hazards" of the dirty deeds of their occupation.

There are a lot of agents who are still licensed that have the license parked with a Referral Only Broker and they are pretty much retired or out of the business.

Are saying every agent/ broker is a Realtor? Not everyone is a Realtor.

Yet many have left the industry here in the Seattle area since the high interest rates and lack of inventory has eliminated their income. One friend worked for Redfin and is now in sales in the aeronautics industry. Selling 2-3 homes a month at over $1 million went down to none in 6 months.

There are a lot of licensees who keep the license merely to have MLS access.
Home inspectors.
Termite control operators.
Investors.
Dabblers.

I am not a REALTOR anymore but have my broker's license until 6/30/2023 when it will expire.
So, I count as an agent, but not as a REALTOR.

LOL. Did you detect some annoyance there? Or maybe some passive rage.

Some of my customers are realtors and they are by far the cheapest and hardest to work with. I tend to bid high so they'll go elsewhere, I don't want to work with them.
