Ocala is far cheaper to live in than Orlando, Tampa, Gainesville, Daytona or Jacksonville for example. Work opportunities are lousy for some, but I think it has gotten better over the past several years. Just my $.02 after living in the area for 22 years. Take the good and the bad, weigh them together and I find it much more favorable than many parts of the state. Still only about 1 1/2 hours from most of the larger cities in Mid/Central Florida.

How are single-home rentals there now? I need to move, tired of COVID, but want to wait until I can afford a decent place. Looking for a 2-bedroom. Thanks, Angela

I must confess that I am no longer an active realtor and I don't have access to the local MLS, but you can check Zillow for general trends in a specific city or zip code.

Lol, I have read there are A LOT of scams on Zillow and other "online" sites. I was asking IF any "locals" have seen any for rent. Not an issue at all! Wow, an ex-Realtor. Thanks, Angela

I only keep track of my 3 rental properties and not outside of my own circle. Zillow is not a perfect tool, but it does help. Realtor.com is a useful site. If you need help finding homes, as a buyer or as a renter, you can consult a realtor at no cost to you to help you look or close on one. Realtor commissions are almost always paid by the seller or current owner of rental properties.

2-bedroom single-family home rental inventory is often sparse here because most homes are 3 or more bedroom homes, but $1,400 - $1,600 per-month for a 1,000 - 1,300sqft home is about what you might expect to pay on average in a non-gated community. If your prospective budget is in that range, you may as well consider a 3-bedroom home as well, as there will be some overlap at the price point and size I mentioned.

Just an example, I own a 3Bed/2bath townhome, about 1100 sq ft that I am renting out @ $1300/month.
