What is the masking situation like right now? A wife and I are coming to Waikiki in a few days and I’m just wondering are masks still required pretty much everywhere or just recommended or not at all? Do most establishments still ask you to wear them? And regardless of the answers to those questions to most people do it?

Masks aren't required - establishments are all optional with masks - in my opinion, about 2/3 of the local residents still mask - and practically none of the tourists.

Masks is not required. Tourists for the majority are not wearing masks. Local residents majority are wearing masks.
Enjoy your trip.

Yes. We still wear our masks when we are out.

Since the Federal Mask mandate on planes ended - coupled with Hawaii ending - all my masks have been put away.

Having gotten Covid - Double Vax - Double Boosted - I'll go with that.

Masks are optional except for students in our schools. Welcome to the island.

Don't get me started. I'm new here and don't want to get kicked out.

I was on island from 29 Apr to 7 May. Both my flights had about ~ 20% of the pax and 40% of crew masked (only FAs - not a single flight deck crew). On island, I'd say about 30-35% of folks were wearing. The number of elderly I saw wearing was actually surprisingly low. They really are one of the groups who should consider wearing one along with immune system impaired people, smokers, and exceptionally overweight individuals not only my opinion - .Gov's). Obviously not a scientific survey - just my own observations.
