I have been battling Tree of Heaven for decades. I cut it down and even pull it out, and it pops up again. I saw firsthand how much the Spotted Lanternfly nymphs love it, so that made me even more determined to keep after it. Luckily, its toxins do not dissuade the many money plants (lunaria) that grow near it. I love them because those beautiful purple flowers arrive so early in spring. My groundhogs love them, too. Too bad I can't persuade the groundhogs to eat Tree of Heaven!

Have you tried 2,4-D (herbicide)?

As soon as you cut a bunch of the trunks, coat the top of each one with some concentrated (not quite straight out of the bottle) 2,4-D. Just don't overdo it, since the stuff kills any plant that has leaves.

Any sap that is flowing down to feed the roots will carry the herbicide into the roots.
