Hi there, I have thought about moving to the Monterey area for a long time. As a kid, our family vacationed in Pacific Grove four times per year and then my parents retired in Monterey. I want to get back to California; I have had enough of the Midwest.

Anyway, I have become a huge tennis nut - tennis is my favorite activity. I play or go to clinics multiple times per week. I figure I have 10-15 more years left where I can play before I’ll have to slow it down or give it up so I want to enjoy it while I can.

Monterey County would be my first choice of destinations but I worry about the tennis scene. Is there enough tennis activity to keep a huge tennis enthusiast happy? Are the clubs in the area active? Lots of leagues, clinics, and informal doubles play/social events? I’m open to playing in Monterey, Carmel, or Seaside area clubs and I’d even travel to Salinas or Santa Cruz if there were active tennis communities there.

Any guidance from fellow tennis enthusiasts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Check the main courts near downtown Monterey. Outside of there, there's a tennis club off Laureles Grade (highway 68).

I doubt you'll find anything in Seaside, Sand City, Marina, or Salinas. No clue about S.Cruz.

There are tennis courts at Hartnell College in Salinas.

Do a Google Search. There may be courts at MPC or some of the local city parks.

There actually is a tennis club in Seaside, Meadowbrook. And a couple of them in Carmel. So maybe there’s more tennis than I initially imagined.
