Stephen Thompson fought Kevin Holland this past weekend, and it was about as good a fight as you'll see in the UFC regarding the quality and the extent of the striking exchanges. Holland made the mistake of sticking nearly entirely with the standup game. He's got 3-inches of height and 6-inches of reach on Thompson and he also demonstrated a tremendous chin. While Thompson was the clear winner in the end, Holland certainly got in his shots as well - rocking Wonderboy at one point, but in the end, a broken hand for Holland plus superior kickboxing from Thompson tilted things to Wonderboy, and Holland's corner threw in the towel at the end of the 4th round. The full fight video is out there at the usual open sources, but I won't post a link as they are not actually authorized.

Would love to see Wonderboy versus Conor McGregor! Two high-level strikers with good speed, who love to throw punches, elbows and kicks - guaranteed to showcase lots of action and athleticism.

A few highlights here

I'm late answering this thread, but I agree with you, that fight was probably one of the best MMA fights ever. Certainly in the top 10. Holland was one tough dude to take those strikes from Stephen.

Of course I'm a little biased since I live in the same small town as Stephen and am well aware of what his family does for Simpsonville, SC and their Karate studio here.

With Stephen being on the downside of his career age wise, his fighting and energy looks like he is still in his prime! Looking forward to more action from Wonderboy.

Yes, at 40yo, he's getting a little old for the Wonderboy ring name, but he *has* kept himself in fantastic condition. I live far away, but I have seen a lot of extended interviews with Stephen as a fan, and he really just seems like such a good dude. He doesn't trash talk outside the cage, and doesn't take cheap shots inside the cage... His precision striking, including lightning-quick counters is some of best we have ever seen in mixed martial arts. He's the fighter I most admire because he seems like he's really trying to do things the right way and also to set a good example for younger fans/fighters.

I enjoyed watching the Steven Thompson highlights. YouTube suggested another video to me - Chingiz Allazov. Fantastic striker with good defense:
