Nick Diaz had a go at Robbie Lawler last year in an attempted comeback, and lost via TKO. Now Diaz is calling out the champ, Kamaru Usman.

I mean, to give Diaz his due, in his prime he was a very good welterweight with the best boxing skills the division had seen at that time, plus very good jiu jitsu. But he never did win that belt, and Nick Diaz isn't in his prime anymore. He's 38 years old and his last UFC win was in 2011.

For Diaz to be calling out the champ, if this is a sport and not just a circus anyway, is ridiculous. I know Dana White often *does* make fights that he shouldn't on the sporting merits, just because he thinks people will pay to see it. But that doesn't make it right. Diaz could *never* work his way up the ranks at this stage, and he doesn't have a realistic chance of beating Usman either.

If you want to throw Nick Diaz in the octagon, let him fight Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson. Like Diaz, Thompson has a technical standup game, and I am certain it would be a very entertaining fight for the fans. Thompson is currently ranked #7, and I would still put money on him over Diaz personally, but if Diaz could beat Thompson and maybe one other currently active top-10 welterweight, then at least it would be *less* of a stretch to think of him going up against the champ as the #1 contender.
