A nice project.

An American who has helped clear 815,000 bombs from Vietnam

That sense of duty has propelled him to commit his life to redressing one of the most deadly legacies of the war: the millions of unexploded bombs and land mines that continue to kill and injure people every year.
Now 79 and living in Hanoi, Searcy is perhaps the most widely known American veteran among Vietnamese, often giving local interviews and making statements that stress his anti-war views, and helping bend U.S. policies toward engagement with Vietnam.

Good luck to this person. How long can buried explosives last? There have been cases where Civil War and WWI bombs have been located and blew up killing or injuring people.

I was living in Germany for 3 years from 2020-2023. Whenever a construction site was in the excavation phase in the city where I lived (Chemnitz), a munitions expert did an initial site survey and sometimes made later visits to the site depending on how much excavation was going on. Every state in Germany has bomb disposal and disarming squads available on short notice. Sometimes thousands of people are evacuated from neighborhoods while a team either disarms or blows up a WW2 era bomb. It is always a reminder that the scars of WW2 are still there.

They regularly uncover bombs in the UK and across Europe.

Just last month, parts of the UK naval town of Plymouth had to be evacuated after a 1,102lb (500kg) German World War Two bomb was found in a garden during building renovation work.

In terms of Bomb Disposal in the UK itself, it is provided by regional units from 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Search Regiment RLC which is part of 29 (Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Search) Group.

The Royal Navy operate Area Dive Groups in relation to UK EOD, they are Northern Alpha Squadron (based at Faslane) and Southern Brave Squadron (split between Portsmouth and Plymouth), whilst Delta and Echo Squadrons work across the globe.

The Metropolitan Police in London also have a dedicated EOD Unit which is part of the Counter Terrorism Command (SO15).

I lived in Morganfield,Ky., where Camp Breckinridge is located. Camp Breckinridge was a training camp and POW camp during WWII. Farmers plowing their fields and people building houses out in the part of the county that was the training area, are still finding live shells buried. Bomb crews from Ft. Campbell, Ky. are called in to dispose of them.

Live naval ordnance from the Civil War is still being found in VA; two years ago in a Petersburg back yard. The last casualty of the Civil War was in 2008 in Chester VA where a relic hunter took ordnance home and it blew him up; shrapnel was spread 1/4 mile into houses.

Britain held out during WW2, and as such was the main focus of Luftwaffe bombing and German V1 and V2 Rocket attacks, whilst the Royal Navy was the main European focus of the Kriegsmarine (the German WW2 Navy) and naval mines.

Much of what the Germans called the Blitzkrieg (Blitz) or 'Lightning War' in German was directed at Britain as were later German rocket attacks.

So I don't think Britain needs to talk to anyone, although in terms of the Dutch they are a close ally, and no strangers to Plymouth, as Dutch Royal Marines and British Royal Marines work closely together and the Dutch even contribute to 3 Commando Brigade within NATO, whilst the Dutch Navy participates in Royal Navy Fleet Operational Standards and Training (FOST).
