It seems like the chip triggered some kind of underlying issue.

https://nypost.com/2023/09/04/teen-h...hip-challenge/

'Harris’ mother told NBC 10 Boston that she believes her son died from complications due to the spicy snack.'

Sounds like the family will be looking for a payout. If the chips have that warning on them how did he get them in the first place? It says only adults should eat them...if a 14 year old drank alcohol and died would the family be blaming the alcohol company?

I feel bad for the kid and family, but is the cause really from eating the chip? No autopsy yet, and he went home and felt fine supposedly?

Seems a bit premature to point the finger at the chip no? What if he got stung by a bee later that night and had a reaction and wasn't aware he was allergic?

I also think it's a little much to be blaming the chip. I'm guessing he had an issue they weren't aware of.

Very sad either way, but the chip company probably shouldn't be getting the blame at this point.

There have been some strange deaths over the past few years with kids and teens and many people have pointed at the covid shot which caused an uproar...but here people are blaming the cause of death in a 14 yr old on a spicy chip.

I can't blame the family. If your seemingly healthy 14 year old dies suddenly, it's natural for many to lash out looking for someone or something to blame: the chip, the school nurse, his friends, yourself. I can't imagine. What the family says or does in these early days should be for their religious leader, therapist, close friends and families, or funeral home director, not for the media.

It would be one heck of a coincidence if the death was unrelated to the chip. Those chips are no joke. It's not unusual for people to end up at the hospital after eating one.

Setting themselves up to bring litigation for sure (against the chip company, school, nurse, etc.), regardless of if the death was actually caused by the chip or not, they'll say it had some impact. $$$$ most people see big dollar signs when these things happen.

Yeah. I have a close relative who I've witnessed twice, having almost an asthma attack and shortness of breath after eating super spicy dishes. It was scary to watch. He didn't have this sensitivity growing up, so it could indeed be a reaction to the spice.

Globe article today talks about this more in-depth:

Yeah. The Warhead challenge. I remember those little buggers.

There's a lot of food challenges that seem ridiculous. the hot dog challenge is one. Pie eating contest used to be pretty common. I know kids my son's age who were doing jalapeno pepper challenges at like 7...they survived. Some people can handle spicey foods better than others. I personally have never done a food challenge like this other than juicing for 3 days.

What in the world? Without any credible information they put the company at risk like that. Here are the ingredients:

Ingredients: Blue Corn, Sunflower and/or Safflower, Carolina Reaper Pepper, Scorpion Chile Pepper, Sea Salt and Blue 1.

I am very sorry for this tragic incident but it's very irresponsible to point the blame at a chip company IMO. It seems unlikely (of course anything is possible) that eating the spicy chip was the truly the cause.
