Hey all,

Just wanted to see if there are any areas / towns in Kauai which are similar to Kula in Maui?

i.e. Residential homes or lots about 1-3 acres, rural feel, elevated for slightly cooler temperatures, and have distant views of the ocean

any ideas on what Kauai areas come close?

Thanks!

CE

KILAUEA:

You might check out Kilauea, up on the north shore of KAUAI. Large land areas with very nice homes. Quiet. Rural, yet an easy drive into Quaint Hanalei Town, or Kapa'a Town. Costco is in Lihue, along with banks, hospital, airport, harbor, doctors, dentist , etc. Lihue, is about 30 minutes.

Kilauea is a very beautiful area, with lots of space. rolling green hills, majestic mountain views. Ocean views. No hotels, no freeways, one stop light and a Small tiny village, and I mean small. Perfect for Kauai Style living.

Kilauea light house, and killer views of the ocean and coast. Bird Sanctuary, Great walking trail to the stone dam area.
More like a waterfall with lush, lush landscape and bubbling stream. ( recently opened up private land ....open to the public now, but very few other people on the trail )

We visited Kauai for 12 years and then moved over as full time residents for 10 years. On island life was marvelous.
We made friends very easily, also we were sierra club hike leaders for Kauai, and volunteered for beach and river clean ups, and joined Malama Maha'ulepu and surfrider.

Also, was on the Kauai Trip Advisor Forum, for many years helping out those who had questions, or were coming to kauai for a visit. Also, worked for a couple or three years in the activity sales, but the most rewarding was three or so years working at the Kauai Athleitic Club. Great people from all walks of life, great times and great friendships .

It was easy living aloha, have respect for everyone, working out, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, diving, and exploring the entire island. And, the very special friendships that were gleaned . We were very active, not much okole sitting.

We have now , moved back to the mainland, and live in a marvelous beach community, called Dana Point, Ca. Essentially, we have just about the same lifestyle as we did on kauai. And we continue to live aloha, no matter where we are.

The move fo us, was very easy and we melded right into island and beach town living, since we lived in the beach cities of southern california , before moving to kauai. Wardrobe has not changed, lifestyle has not changed, from beach city, to beach city, and back across the pond to our current beach city.

Life is good.

Denny and Erica

If you want something with a slope like up to Haleakala from Kihei, above and ocean view, I would look at Lawai and Kalaheo. The north shore is flat over bluffs, not the same and harder to get an ocean view unless you have a budget in the two-plus millions.

No.

Not even close. Kauai doesn't have an Up Country. Plenty of nice, smaller towns, but not the geography of Kula. Lawai is 500' elevation, Kula is 2,600'.
