My old laptop was Windows 10 with Firefox browser that automatically updated. I use Proton VPN.

My new laptop is Windows 11 with the latest Firefox browser and Proton VPN. I can't figure out what is different.

What can I do to go back to my peaceful ad free life?

Check if your old computer is running Proton VPN's NetShield Ad-blocker and your new one isn't.

WHERE are you getting ads that you were not before. Let's start there. In Firefox?

The Daily Mail has so many pop ups and dozens of ads on one article. It was very minimal before. Unless it's a coincidence that they just started bombarding readers on the day I bought a new laptop.

I wonder if I had checked or unchecked a setting in Firefox that prevented those ads previously. I had my computer for so long that I don't remember.

Never saw that before on my old computer and the window showing I'm connected/protected looks the same as always.

Check the ProtonVPN versions on both computers to verify you have ad blocking as explained in the blog that I linked previously.

You also need to turn off ads in Windows 11:

Reading the above link...

They have ads in File Explorer now? Holy smokes... that is over the top.

That's another reason I am holding on to Windows 10 as long as possible.

Did you go through all the settings in FF? I would start there.

Block pop up windows was already checked off so I didn't need to do it.

Couldn't find anything else related to ad blockers. My previous computer often got messages asking me to remove ad blockers, though, to access certain things.
