Huntington received a perfect score of 100 on a 100-point scale and a raw score of 106, its highest ever recorded in the annual report. Only 120 cities received a perfect score, up from 110 in 2021.

For the second consecutive year, two West Virginia cities received a perfect score in the Municipal Equality Index.
Morgantown achieved a perfect score along with Huntington. The nationwide average was 68.

Charleston (94), Wheeling (59), Charles Town (45), Lewisburg (45) and Parkersburg (13) were also included in the report.

I have to imagine that Wood County being represented by Mike Azinger is always going to be a big drag on it's score.

He didn't get my vote but he certainly won by a large margin.

I seriously doubt they even know who he is

This is not a ranking of a city’s atmosphere or quality of life. It is an evaluation of the city’s law and policies, and an examination of how inclusive city services are of LGBTQ+ people. Some high-scoring cities may not feel truly welcoming for all LGBTQ+ people, and some low-scoring cities may feel more welcoming than their policies might reflect.

That he won by a large margin shows how unwelcoming the state still is.

Across much of West Virginia, people voted for candidates that are committed to legislation that will further drive people away and make the state more hostile for people coming in. I can't comprehend how so many people can vote against their own best interests.

It's good to see Huntington doing so well in this category.
