Yeah, I recently paid about $35 for a box of 9mm rounds.

I get emails from online bulk ammo retailers and they are still expensive (from the pre-COVID days). The 223 Rem are at $.62/round, roughly double what it used to be and the 7.62X39 Wolf is around $.40/round.

Once we stop caving to those prices, it should bring the demand down and the supply up. That said we have a ton of newbies out there that aren't familiar with pre Covid prices.

Correct.
It does look like more inventory is showing up online.
Also some dealers have lowered their prices on a few guns. Example... Tombstone Tactical was asking $899.95 for their base model Ruger AR15 a couple of months ago, but this week the emails show it as $699.95.. and in stock.
(I have no affiliation with that business)

Yes, prices are starting to moderate. Glock 17 is $530 plus tax where I live these days. Ammo will lag as all the new shooters try to stock up. I am thinking the new buyers are about done as far as first time purchasers and I expect ammo to slowly become more available at local gun shops at lower prices.

I still think most new gun buyers are the "buy one box and put it in the drawer" types. Ammo manufacturers are claiming they had laid off so many people and closed so many lines when Trump was elected that they were caught with their pants down when the demand leaped back up.

Personally, I think the middlemen are gouging, if not the manufacturers themselves.

I know enough about controlling product price (which is different from product "cost") to know it's not that simple.

"Control the product and marketing" is like saying "bell the cat."

It's not very regularly, just the last 2 time obama and biden won. And after a year or so, it was back to normal.....

Other than primers reloading components are available, but spotty. There are a couple of powders that are just damn near impossible to find- H1000 and Retumbo. My 7mm mag loves H1000, but I managed to score 5lbs of Retumbo.

Some bullets are hard to find, but there are alternatives usually available. I've got enough to keep my busy (and shooting) for years though. In fact I'm prepping 100 .308 Win loads and some 6.5CM for this weekend. I might also load some .44mag for my lever action too.

No, the current shortage began a year ago. Covid was probably what triggered panic hoarding (same as with toilet paper).

As I've said, manufacturers claim they had reduced production capacity because of what they call the "Trump Slump"--that gun owners stopped purchasing ammunition, so the manufacturers closed lines and laid off workers, leading to a bona fide shortage when the panic buying began in the spring of 2020.

I don't believe there was ever a "Trump Slump." I certainly never saw a surplus of ammunition on the shelves. The manufacturers may not have intended it, but if they shut down lines and laid off workers as they admit, they are a much a cause of the current situation as covid.
