I feel like things are shifting away from the greedy mortuary/funeral home business and for some, the religious aspects of services/burial. I kind of like the idea of less traditional services. Cremation and such of lower prices, home services or at reserved restaurant areas, writing messages on containers with ashes, scattering ashes, etc. After seeing too many turn into weird cult followers or extremely judgemental or too aggressive in recruiting for religions...well, I prefer to avoid religion entirely.

I agree totally. Religion doesn't comfort me at all. It's a big business to me, like the funeral industry.

That said, I believe people have a right to do as they please, as long as they do so within the confines of the law. If they want a 50,000 dollar funeral and then pay 20,000 dollars to a preacher, priest, etc., by all means, do so.

My husband's body was donated to a medical school but I wanted a memorial. It was held the same place we got married-the chapel at the collage where he taught and where we met. We did what we wanted-a slide-show, people talked if they wanted to. And the school had refreshments for after. I only had to pay for the food.

you are right about the funeral industry. and the bigger the corporate structure is for a group of homes, the worse it is.
