There is glass just like that in Grand Rapids, I think it's the children hospital... on medical hill.

Yeah, every healthcare company in the country is hiring these "starchitects" like Jonathan Bailey, HDR, Rockwell, Ellenzweig, etc..

Those clouds bear a resemblance to the aurora borealis.

It is making me wish it was winter.

One thing I notice about the GR area in many of these pictures has to be the water, alot of it.

the name comes from the rapids on the Grand River (which runs through town), so yes, Grand Rapids has lots of water.

Truthfully we have less in terms of inland lakes than other parts of Michigan.... but we have our fair share of those too.

Michigan is a water-centric state. Even in times of high unemployment there are boats everywhere (trailers, garages, etc) and you're always relatively near some form of water.

Oh yes. It is a French name, Grandes Rapides, meaning big rapids. Makes sense.

I know about the lakes in western Michigan.

Your talk about Michigan(and in particular, the GR) gave me an idea. You spoke of times of high unemployment. Perhaps things can turn up. Many people love to take the boats out to the lake. Maybe the boat industry can be a niche industry for Michigan. Building boats and building them to a different standard. There is plenty of water around to test them out too.

Actually, S2 Yachts in Holland was going gang-busters building boats and shipping them to points around the globe (Middle East even). Then the luxury boat market went bust. Now they're starting a division to build wind turbine parts.
