3 weeks earlier than last year and pictures don't do justice. They are gigantic.
I think I'm going to take this one down and leave the other one. Man I hate to do that. Just don't wanna pay to keep it pruned or to take down a massive tree in future.
I can just drop this on my own now. Plus its raising the soil at the base and hard to keep up with the lawn underneath. The Oak is sucking the nutrients like crazy
This is part of the fun of living in the same place for a long time. The 2-3ft tall white pine we planted over 20 years ago is now about 50ft tall. The magnolia we planted about 15 years ago is doing well too, around 30ft tall.

Yup, Watching things grow is amazing, looking back and remembering is priceless.
Here's a Spring shot of the Pin Oak... Hard to imagine it was only 5 feet tall just 15 yrs ago. And I do summer pruning, imagine that.

Yes, so far you've been fortunate that oak wilt disease apparently isn't in your area. Pruning during the summer, when oak trees are most susceptible, is nothing to brag about.

Arborists would be out of business if we couldn't prune oaks in summer. Majority of trees around here are Oak. I stopped reading and worrying and started talking and experimenting. Seems to work. And Summer storms always snap branches off, trees are fine.

The google search I gave provides links to arborists all saying the same thing: prune pin oaks when they are dormant. If wilt hits your community your trees could be dead in short order. Why not do what the arborists recommend? Have you considered calling your local Extension service? I believe you are in CT.
