According to the NOAA Weather forecast for the interior of Alaska, there is a cold front sweeping through the Easter interior starting this and into the next week. Temperatures in the -20's to -40's are possible by next week. We had had a mild winter so far, at least temperature-wise. Don't forget to pack some warm winter gear, including boots, face masks, and so on, before driving away from home.

Hopefully my fellow "square-banksans" are OK. This forum seems to be dead recently

I'm great, just been really busy with work. Hope you're also well Ray!

Bummer that it was cold for the solstice last night. My Raynaud's has been really bad lately so I didn't want to go outside and do anything on one of my favorite days of the year. Did you get any good photos last night?

Fairbanks had the solstice fireworks last night, so celebrated here yesterday and last night.

I probably could have phrased my post better, haha

It hit -42 in MCG this morning and will be probably be that cold again tonight. Hopefully it will lift to above -20 then. I do not think we got that cold last winter.

I haven't been out at night for a few weeks already, mainly because it had been cloudy. Now it is quite clear, but is too cold to be parked out there late at night a few miles from home. I usually drive close to the Tanana to take photos of the Auroras, but -42 degrees is just brutal

It was even colder in the low areas a few miles away from Fairbanks. You are right about last winter, at least around Fairbanks. But I remember the early '90's having long stretches of -60 and colder temperatures. I military friend of mine experienced -70 in some remote locations.

At least it is not as cold as some winters in the '80s and early '90s. But you better bag the groceries properly to insulate from the cold air when walking from the store to the car. Can't blame shoppers for leaving their car engines running
