We’ve only been to casinos to see the shows. We gambled a little. Like 20 bucks. Slots were fun,as long as they had the arm to pull. Those are going away. Doesn’t have a casino feel with out the pull.
Although back when I worked at the bank, I had an older couple who went to the casinos frequently. The lady was a card player. They’d take out a grand, and come home with a few thousand, pretty much all the time.
I've heard it said that the worst introduction to gambling is when you hit it big your first time. You will throw away tons of $$$ trying to recapture that win and the thrill.
I can attest to this. One of my first jobs while I was in school was a place that sold scratch tickets. Had the "usual's" that would be in every day buying tickets and playing keno etc. Sold a few big winners over the years but the house wins just like the casino's.
Had one regular retired customer who came in for years without ever spending a dollar on tickets or lottery. However, one day he bought $20 of scratch tickets. Within those he won $400. From that day he was hooked, spending close to $100 a day in tickets at least, until I stopped working there years later.
That is all understandable. Your amounts are far cries from $25k or more ATM daily withdrawal, which that poster is implying. Still not buying that story.
I'm fairly certain that if someone has $25k that they can drop gambling, they have enough money in their checking account that the bank will allow them to set whatever limit for withdrawal that they want.
At least, I *HOPE* that if someone is dropping $25k at a table that they have enough money to do that.
I have no opinion about the truthfulness of the post.. But I can certainly see it being possible.
I remember this one time, I think I was in 7th grade or something, we flew to visit my grandparents and I overheard dad telling grandpa how he had lost over $30k (this is back in the early 90's) at some casino. A little while later, maybe it was a few weeks or months we were home.. my mom, dad and I... having dinner. Usually dinner conversation was between my parents and I would stay silent and eat, but the conversation somehow strayed to gambling and there had been some miscommunication happening between my parents and I spoke out that *I* knew how much dad lost at the casino.. "I heard him tell grandpa.. dad lost over $30k!!!"
I watched rage fill my mom's eyes and then all conversation stopped for the rest of the evening. Nobody said a word.
I'm not sure what's worse, that my mom didn't know at all, or that I knew before her....
I do some work for one of the top addiction centers in America . The most difficult addiction is gambling as it is the only one where you can WIN. Can't win from drugs or booze but that
Next race, hand of cards, etc you can win. Only addiction with a plus side.
What people don't understand is that for gambling addicts, losing becomes addictive as well.
There is no clearer moment in one's life than just after losing everything....again. The walk back to the car, the drive home, rolling around in bed, and the pain and shame that go along with it require more thorough and honest personal inventory taking than a thousand episodes of Oprah. "What have I done??" is not just a rhetorical question in these moments. Answering it is required to even breathe correctly and ultimately makes one feel healthier for having gone through the whole ordeal. Remaining assets and revenue sources are tallied and armed with this new attitude, a positive life plan is created...again. (Something we should all do regularly but don't.)
While not as addicting as the anticipation of gambling or winning a big hand, it is addictive nonetheless.
To make matters worse, to the addict, being up at the casino does not even feel good. Quitting while down a little makes zero sense to an addict. Quitting while up a little makes even LESS. There is no greater torture than making an addict go home early when he's up. (This was the night he's been dreaming about!) If ever actually up big, the house advantage will work its magic until nothing is left. There is no limit to this. Million dollar+ jackpot winners give it all back all the time. To add insult to injury, Vegas is designed to make all low rollers feel small compared to high rollers. Think you're a high roller? That's funny. You're not even allowed on their floor.

It is 100% feasible. There are a few ways. Multiple debit cards can be used, the ATM would have a limit but going directly to the cage and doing the Debit card transaction as 'credit' can increase the limit by A LOT. Also one credit card cash advance can be 10's of 1000's of dollars. That is not done through the ATM, but at the cage. Depending on the credit card, they may require a verification phone call, but all this can be done in a short time-span.
Big craps players are a different breed, the story the poster shared are completely viable, even to the lack of emotion when the money went down the toilet. I've seen similar things myself.

The ATM (who knows maybe it wasn't an ATM after all)was about 20 feet behind the craps table inside the casino. I believe this was at the Beau Rivage casino in Beloxi MS.
I was told by a few people there that it was 5 grand because of the chips he was getting at the table... and he kept getting the same chips over and over.... so no I didn't follow him to the ATM and watch him type 5000 in the the console, but I never saw anyone else play with with those chips before or after and the folks around the table were all whispering about it.. so I asked a few of them. THe all said it was about 5k worth of chips.
I am simply not wired to be able to gamble. I'm just way too conservative and scared of my own shadow. We've been to Vegas probably four or five times through our 25 years of marriage and the last time I went I literally spent $1 at a slot machine.
I do love to watch other people play poker and blackjack and I also like to watch roulette. Last time we were in Vegas I walked into the Bellagio and there were two gentlemen sitting at a roulette table all by themselves with about 5 people watching. Pretty soon one of the guys gets up and leaves. I noticed the other guy sitting there was a very very large man sitting on a scooter and appeared to be Russian. He was throwing $1,000 and $5,000 poker chips on the roulette table like there were quarters. Probably betting $25,000 each spin . while I was sitting there he reupped his chips two or three times. I stood there for probably 20 minutes watching this and he easily lost $150,000. As the time went along other people realized what was going on there and there were probably 25 or 30 people standing around the table watching him. Just crazy.
I like the casinos and I'd say my biggest losing night in one was on New Year's Eve about 4 or 5 years ago. My girlfriend then, (wife now) and I each lost about $500.00. However, I hold nothing against casinos, as I made the choice to go there and gamble. I've been back to many casinos since then many times, and I set a limit. This New Year's Eve, my wife and I went to the local casino again to ring in 2018. We had a great buffet dinner, and neither of us spent a dime.
