My brother and I went to St Jean Baptist school in Duluth in the 1950s and are planning a visit to Minnesota later this year but I can't find any trace of the school. Does anyone know if it's still there?

I'm afraid I can't remember the address but it might have been Grand Avenue. When looking at the school from the road, it had a convent on the left hand side - the school building in the middle with the playground in front of it and a big old church of the same name on the right hand side.

I can't really find any reference to it on the web and have even looked at the Diocese of Duluth for information. I do have a contact e-mail form that page for the Head of the Department of Catholic Schools. czook@dioceseduluth.org

I'm relying on childhood memories so can't remember if it was near Lincoln Park.

Thank you for the email address which I will contact as they should know the history. I still have my report cards so know the name of the shcool is correct but the address is not shown. I did find one reference to the school in Google under an obituary for a lady who graduated from the school in 1934.

I most definitely could be wrong, but I think it is gone. I think it used to be located on West Third St. and 25th Ave. West where Holy Family Catholic Church is now located. Seems like after sitting here thinking about it that it when I was a kid there was a Catholic school there that people called St. Jean's.

I just looked on Google Earth and I think you may well be right. We lived on Grand Avenue and I remember it was a fairly long walk straight up the road. The school we went to in Montevideo has been pulled down too - I wonder if that is sending some kind of message!

St. Jean Baptiste was located on W 3rd St between 24th and 25th Av West.
I attended school there from 1959-1964.
The school and convent have been torn down some years ago.
The church was also torn down and a new one built in its place.
The new Holy Family Catholic Church is the merger of St Jeans, Sts Peter & Paul, and St Clements.
