but I just can't get on board with becoming Mrs. Montag, not just yet.
I doubt I ever will, either.
There will come a day when entire walls of homes are converted into "smart" screens, as foreshadowed in Black Mirror's Fifteen Million Merits.

Bing Madsen lives in a room surrounded by screens that wake him up, serve as a video game console and feature regular adverts. He rides on a stationary bike to generate electricity in exchange for "merits", which he needs to pay for his daily cost of living.
The original post was dated 07-16-2008. OP probably spent the first portion of their life on 4:3 aspect ratio and the change to 16:9 was just too great to bear. You know, having all that extra screen real estate can be really taxing on simple minds.
It highly depends on the use case. For older folks that tend to watch older shows, new TV's can be a downgrade. In fact it can be ridiculous, as I've seen some old shows that end up on my TV with black bars around the entire show...top, bottom, left and right. The result is a tiny show in the middle of the screen. Then you play with wide, zoom, whatever and it still looks like crap. But sometimes they do it right, and a remastered old show can look great when there are no black bars on the top and bottom...as it should be for all 4:3 content.
Then I watch new content on my $300 55-inch and the picture is absolutely stunning.
