A group I am involved with will be having a birding convention based out of Grand Junction next late spring/early summer (exact dates not known yet). The convention involves lots of birding field trips at distances up to two hours away.

I already have some ideas, but for any folks from the area I'd be interested to hear your birding location suggestions!

Ridgway State park in conjunction with the Black Canyon Audubon society had a bird banding program for a few weeks last summer. I dont think I would call this area a bird viewing destination (if that is even a thing) but its a scenic lake surrounded by the San Juan's. Public was welcome and we stopped by which was interesting. I personally love to watch the big soaring birds (buzzards, hawks, eagles) in the valley just to the South.

There’s a bunch right in town. James Robb Colorado River State Park right off Broadway and the Colorado River. Connected Lakes, Grand Junction Wildlife area, Tillman Bishop Wildlife area in Palisade. Kindred Reserve by Tierra Rado.
