Another coach, this time Indiana's Tom Allen, "failing up" to the tune of a $20.8 million buyout and he's only 53. He went 33–49 over 8 seasons, winning...................I mean losing.............but winning the game called life!

Indiana coach Tom Allen fired, owed $20.8M buyout, sources say

Well, I know this is the firing thread but the Oregon State coach is taking the Michigan State job. OSU lost to Oregon but it seems this hire was already in the cards. Sometimes when you lose, you win.

Michigan State has hired Jonathan Smith as its next football coach, the school announced on Saturday. Smith, 44, has spent the past six seasons as coach at Oregon State where he's guided the Beavers to 18 wins over the past two seasons, including a 10-3 mark and No. 17 finish in the AP Top 25 during a 2022 campaign that earned him Pac-12 Coach of the Year honors. Smith was among the initial pool of candidates linked to the Michigan State opening after the Spartans fired fourth-year coach Mel Tucker with cause midseason amid sexual harassment allegations. Smith later emerged as the leading candidate to replace Tucker during the final week of the regular season, which saw Oregon State suffer a 31-7 loss at rival Oregon.

I actually hated to see this happen given that Smith was the QB of one of the best Oregon State teams in history, but with the implosion of the PAC and OSU being left out of the proceedings... I reckon it was impossible to turn MSU down.

I just like the story.. even the Clemson player didn't really hold it against him.. That being said.. He would have likely survived that were it not for everything else. Guy did have a pretty checkered history.. And, to get fired in the 70s for that.. It's wasn't like today.. he did that today, he wouldn't have even made it back onto the team plane most likely.

Clemson remembers it just because from that moment until a couple of years ago.. Clemson had OSU's number.

https://sports.yahoo.com/chip-kelly-...190736415.html

One of Chip Kelly’s mantras in leading UCLA to a record of one game over .500 in six seasons was “Habits reflect the mission.”

The coach lived up to those words in his departure from the school that continually backed him despite his middling results. His interviews with other teams before agreeing to reunite with longtime friend Ryan Day as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator reflected his mission to leave UCLA at an inopportune time for the Bruins.

A little more than two months after UCLA athletic administrators backed the beleaguered coach amid calls for his job, Kelly rewarded their support with an unexpected vacancy on the eve of spring practice and a move to the Big Ten Conference. In doing so, he will be taking what amounts to a demotion to prop up his own future prospects with a team that annually competes for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

I believe that Coach Hayes swinging at that Clemson Player is what set the OSU Program back in terms of their overall record against Clemson and in winning National Championships.

Think about it:

The Ohio State is 1-4 vs Clemson All-Time.

Since that punch, Ohio State has only won 2 National Championships (2002 and 2014.) This is despite all the talent level in recruiting.

However, I strongly believe that a National Championship will happen soon for The Ohio State University.
