The reputation of Chattanooga

How would y'all say traffic in Chattanooga compares with metro Atlanta now? I grew up in East Tennessee (near Gatlinburg) and am considering applying for a job in Chattanooga to move back to be closer to the mountains and outdoor activities. One of the things I despise about where I live is the traffic and sprawl. For reference, I also lived in Knoxville for years, and, other than in West Knoxville, the traffic wasn't a problem for me.

Note: there are some things I like about Stone Mountain, but traffic and commute time ain't on that list.

The overall traffic in Chattanooga by comparison is much less, of course, but it can be just as bad in smaller pockets of the city, especially where the stop lights aren’t synchronized well or in places that have four-way stop signs in higher traffic areas: the trouble spots here can really get backed up and gridlocked when intersections aren’t controlled by well-timed stop lights.

I found such an area yesterday near Gunbarrel and Shallowford going NW trying to get onto S I-75.
The lights seemed to be timed wrong. Lights would turn green but there was no where to go; traffic in front of me was held up and at a stop.

What whole area is a traffic nightmare with poorly timed and closely-spaced lights. Don't even consider going through that area between Thanksgiving and Christmas with all the shoppers.
