Just imagine having a set-up where you never need to have a generator or other, for when you're already camping.

Every sci-fi movie I watched, they can easily swap the battery of a future age vehicle and it is ready to go. There is never this concept that future vehicles require charging. In scifi movies, the energy packs are pretty tiny that can power a big car.

These weather anomalies have little effect of solar panel generation capacity.

Now, parking under a tree canopy....

Yeah we had a slight dilemma when we put solar in, the company said they could increase generation by a good amount if we cut back (or down) a tree that shades half the house...the tree that makes it so that we don't need AC until mid/late afternoon. Without the tree we'd probably run the unit 3-4 hours more each hot day.
We left the tree as it. Felt wrong to do otherwise.

Thank you for not cutting down that tree, rokuremote. Trees do more to prevent climate change and if more people knew that, they'd be less apt to remove them. No doubt, the solar technicians who advised you to remove yours didn't know this little fact.

Any topic regarding fossil fuels tends to be polarizing from the get go. People think: fossil fuels = bad, anything electric = good. There is just too much grey area in this space.

For example, not all fossil fuels are created alike. Coal is horrible for the environment, whereas natural gas is going to be completely crucial to the fight against climate change. You get more energy generation from natural gas vs. coal and it emits 60% less carbon.

https://www.americangeosciences.org/...els-are-burned

EV's are can be better for the environment, but it depends on how often you drive. If you are a person that just drives to the store and back, they are actually worse. If you are a person that drives frequently, they are far better. It just depend on your driving habits:

https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/sto...bon-footprint/

As salty as it can make people, fossil fuels are going to be a significant part of energy generation until everyone commenting here is dead and beyond. It is why technology is going to be a huge part of the fight against climate change. No one state is willing to go through brown outs or be restricted to which days they can drive. We need to get rid of high carbon output fossil fuels like coal, work on carbon capture technology, and increase renewable sources of energy all at the same time.

Once all these millions and millions of batteries are kaput, what are we going to do with them?

Burn them? There goes those emissions we were so concerned over.

Bury them? Nope, those are hazardous waste. By law, that isn't legal.

Drop them into the ocean? That's just a place that'll pollute that area.

Store them in containers "on site?" Great until they heat up and catch fire.

This is going to be the "elephant in the room" evantually.

It’s a very well known and pontificated on elephant already.

My take is: human ingenuity and avarice will figure out *profitable* ways to dispose and recycle that which is now considered impossibly mankind’s next demise.

Absolutely right - profitable to a select few at the expense of everyone else as it usually happens.

What expense will “everyone else” pay more than what “everyone else” pays now through fossil fuel extraction/processing/distribution, use and pollution?

Their batteries hurt the environment, but EVs still beat gas cars. Here's why
