I don't want the baby to lose use of his or her legs.

14 days? Longer?

From my experience with baby birds, I generally didn't touch the chicks until they started to grow pin feathers and the eyes were opening, if I trusted the parents to continue to care for the chicks and/or if I was going to take over the hand-feedings of the chicks myself. Best wishes.

The good news is, it looks like this one is going to make it. Might be a colorful bird, can't tell yet. Bird is on his or her feet (not on her back like some "psycho Mom birds" I have had, so use of legs should be very good) and the Dad is supportive, seems engaged in bringing up the baby chick sometimes, mostly Mom, of course.

Going to wait until the baby is a little bit bigger. Lost track of time but I'll put the baby at about 2 weeks.
